AIR-DRYING – NOT SUCH A GOOD IDEA
Contrary to common belief, air-drying is NOT AT ALL better for your hair!
Keeping hair wet damages the hair fibre, weakens the cell membrane and reduces hair elasticity and shine.
That’s why it’s best to use a good quality hair dryer, not just any old one!
* Towel-dry your hair, preferably using a microfibre towel, pressing gently rather than rubbing the hair.
* Detangle using a wide-tooth comb – wet hair is more likely to break, so be gentle!
* Apply a heat protectant to protect your hair.
* Choose a hair dryer temperature that’s not too high and use a nozzle to control the airflow and heat.
* Hold the appliance between 15 and 20 cm from your hair and keep it moving. Start by drying the roots then move down to the ends, alternating between gentle heat and the cool air button. Once ¾ dry, you can increase the temperature.
The cool shot button closes the scales to increase hair shine.
Extra tip: if your dryer has the ionic function, use it to reduce static electricity.
* If you want to give your hair more volume (especially curly hair), start drying with your head upside down. Then use a diffuser to redefine your curls.
* If blow-drying, blow in the direction of the desired hairstyle. Smooth hair with a flat brush or use a round brush for a soft blow-dry. It is best to use a non-synthetic bristle brush.
* When you’ve finished drying/styling your hair, hold down the cool air or heat reduction button for at least 30 seconds to close the hair cuticles.
